During the past week, we have had rain, snow, sleet, bitter cold temperatures and windy conditions (to include lake wind advisories). The lake level at Bull Shoals Dam rose six tenths of a foot to rest at eight tenths of a foot above power pool of 654.00 feet. This is forty and two tenths feet below the top of flood pool.

Fish Habitat Work on the Norfork Tailwater

During the past month the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AG&FC) has been doing some habitat work on the Norfork River in the Catch and Release section upstream from the Ackerman Access. This is one of a few projects funded in part by the legal settlement with Trout Unlimited over the Norfork Overlook Estates law suit.  The idea here was to stabilize Charley’s island and improve the trout habitat in the area surrounding it.

Warming Up With Wintertime Lake of the Ozarks Crappie Fishing

Neither rain, sleet nor snow shall keep some anglers away from their crappie spots in the dead of winter on Lake of the Ozarks.

While fair-weather fishermen cower in the warmth of their homes, others shrug off the cold because they know they can catch quality crappie in the winter and virtually have all the best fishing spots to themselves. One angler who spends his winter days--and even some nights--pursuing these tasty panfish is Terry Blankenship, a Lake of the Ozarks angler.

New Volunteers Needed!

Volunteers are a vital part of the operation of the Conservation center at the Fish Hatchery.  We are now taking applications for volunteers like you to help with two main areas of need 1) Public Programs & Tours, and 2) Landscaping.  The volunteer program at the Hatchery is a part of the MO Department of Conservation is quite unique in operation.  Volunteers undergo extensive free training and receive incentives at 100 hour milestones.  You do not have experience or knowledge of local flora and fauna, just an interest in sharing your interests of the outdoors. Interviews will take place in December and January with the training taking place in late January.

Lake Taneycomo Report 12/2/11

Southwest Power Admin's generation site this morning said they were going to run 3 units this morning and one unit for the rest of the day, basically. As I sit writing this report, it's noon on Friday and there's no generation. They didn't get it right today. Most times they do but not all the time. This isn't good for those who depend on this schedule, having to drive down from the Springfield area or up from Arkansas to fish. But that's the way it is.
